Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife reserve is located in Warangal district of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The sanctuary is spread over 860sq.km consisting of a large plateau surrounded by low hills. The Pakhal Lake and its environment form the core area of the sanctuary. The vegetation consists of tropical dry deciduous mixed forests, bamboo and mixed teak forests.

The annual temperature ranges from 15oC to 45 oC. The best time to visit is from November to June.

The fauna consists of tiger, leopard, sambar, nilgai, sloth bear, chital, four horned antelope, mountain gazelle, black buck, wild boar, spoonbill, teal, cormorant and stork. Migrating waterfowls and waders arrive at the lake between November to March.

The sanctuary can be reached by road. Nearest railway station is Warrangal. Accommodation is available at forest rest house at Pakhal.
